Ludington man pleads ‘no contest’ to aggravated stalking, strangulation and domestic violence.

LUDINGTON — A 28-year-old Ludington man pleaded “no contest” to aggravated stalking, assault by strangulation and domestic violence in 51st Circuit Court Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Kody Michael Shriver, of 7065 N. Dennis Rd., will be sentenced to time served at the time of sentencing of a one-year jail discretionary jail term and will also be placed on GPS monitoring for six months following his release from jail. Shriver will also be placed on probation.

The strangulation and domestic violence incident occurred March 6, in the Village of Fountain. The victim is a woman with whom Shriver had been in a dating relationship with for 12 years and they share two children, said Judge Susan K. Sniegowski.

“The defendant grabbed her by the hair and pushed her into the door frame injuring her face and then began to choke her,” said Judge Sniegowski while reviewing the police report.

There was a loaded shotgun located outside and not in his immediate possession that he threatened to shoot her with, the judge said.

After Shriver was arrested and lodged in the Mason County Jail, he “made multiple phone calls to other individuals asking them to contact the victim,” said the judge. That criminal activity resulted in the stalking charge.

One count of telephone interference will be dismissed, and a case in 79th District Court will also be dismissed, said Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola. However, Shriver will be ordered to pay restitution for damaged mailboxes in that case.

Assault by strangulation is a felony with a 10-year maximum, and aggravated stalking has a five-year maximum.

Sentencing is set for Dec. 15 at 1 p.m.
