79th District Court sentencings and dismissals, posted Oct. 8, 2020.

The following were recently sentenced in Mason County’s 79th District Court:

-James Thomas Espinoza, 28, of 1833 Palace Ave. SW, Grand Rapids, pleaded guilty Oct. 6 to operating a vehicle while impaired by liquor (OWIL) and was sentenced to two days in jail with credit for two days served; 93 days discretionary jail for one year; must have a substance abuse evaluation; must attend victim’s impact panel; no drugs/alcohol; subject to random PBTs; must complete alcohol highway safety education; and $895 in fines/costs. Conviction is reportable to Secretary of State (SOS). A charge of reckless driving was dismissed.

-Michael Alan Eager, 47, of 2897 S. Doty Dr., Branch Township, pleaded guilty Oct. 6 to operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) and was sentenced to 33 days in jail with credit for three days already served; 93 days discretionary jail for one year; must attend victim’s impact panel; no drugs/alcohol; subject to random PBTs; must complete alcohol highway safety education; and $1,095 in fines/costs. Conviction is reportable to SOS.

 Dismissals

-Justin Michael Hamilton, 31, of 4705 E. Fisher Rd., Sherman Township, had charges of failure to maintain security (no vehicle insurance) and violating a restricted license dismissed on Oct. 6 after pleading guilty to a civil infraction. 

-Craig Lawrence Convissor, 73, of 58 S. Taylor Rd., Branch Township, had a charge of failure to maintain security (no vehicle insurance) dismissed on Oct. 6 after pleading guilty to a civil infraction. 

-Kyle Avery Michels, 24, of 6954 E. US 10, Branch Township, had a charge of failure to maintain security (no vehicle insurance) dismissed on Oct. 6 as part of a plea agreement.

-Robert Eugene VanSickle, 19, of 5078 N. William St., Fountain, had a charge of failure to maintain security (no vehicle insurance) dismissed on Oct. 1 after correcting the problem the day he was cited.
