Around the County: Trooper Butterfield Memorial Service 2020

The annual memorial service honoring Michigan State Police Paul Butterfield was held Wednesday, Sept. 9 at the location of his death on Custer Road in Free Soil Township. Butterfield was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop on Sept. 9, 2013. The event is organized every year by Shirley and Jerry Chancellor of the Fountain Area Fire Department, who both responded to the emergency call. The event also included members of the Mason County Allied Veterans (Butterfield was an Army veteran), and representatives of Michigan State Police, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, and Scottville Police Department.

Around the County is a presentation of Preferred Credit Union.
