Volunteer youth recognized for helping in Scottville.

SCOTTVILLE — Five boys were given special recognition Tuesday evening during the regular meeting of the City Commission. The boys had performed community service over the summer under the supervision of Scottville Police Officer Katrina Skinner. They assisted with projects such as collecting and sorting cans and bottles at McPhail Field (to date, over $7,000 have been collecting with proceeds being used for improvements at the field), helping rebuild benches and rebuild a roof (collecting the shingles on the ground) on the restrooms at the field and hauling brush for city residents.

“These young men worked as a team and accomplished one big goal,” Skinner said, addressing the commission. “They did whatever was asked of them and went above and beyond, often in weather of 80 to 95 degrees. They didn’t complain, well, maybe a little, but that’s OK.”

Skinner presented the boys with t-shirts and special gifts while Mayor Bruce Krieger gave each one a letter of appreciation from the city.

The boys included Gadge Walker, Evan Staggs, Joseph Ostby, Benjamin Lester and Michael Lester.
