Emergency personnel searching for missing kayaker. 

BRANCH TOWNSHIP — Emergency personnel have been searching for a missing kayaker since since Thursday evening. According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, the 64-year-old Commerce Township man’s kayak was found overturned in the Pere Marquette River about a mile south of Budzynski Road at 8:45 p.m. Thursday.

Personnel from MCSO Dive Team, Branch Township Fire Department, and Custer Fire Department searched until 2 a.m. Friday and then began again early Friday morning. Cole said he has been in contact with Michigan State Police for use of its helicopter to assist with the search.
