LUDINGTON – A 31-year-old L’Anse woman was arrested by Ludington police officers after she allegedly stole a Jeep Wrangler Thursday, July 23, around 12:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Rath Avenue, according to Ludington Police Chief Timothy Kozal.

“The driver (owner) of the vehicle had stopped and was unloading items into a local business, and when they returned to the vehicle it had been stolen,” Chief Kozal said.

“The white 2016 Jeep Wrangler was located within 30 minutes traveling towards Lake Michigan. Officers were able to stop the vehicle on South Lakeshore Drive south of Loomis Street.” The lone occupant, a 31-year-old woman from the Upper Peninsula Village of L’Anse, was arrested without incident.

The suspect was lodged at the Mason County Jail, and the case will be presented to the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office seeking a charge of unlawful driving away of an automobile.

The vehicle was released to the owner.
