Fountain named regional Athletic Director of the Year.

Michigan’s professional organization of school athletic directors, the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA), has selected Randy Fountain of Ludington Area School District as regional Athletic Director of the Year. One of only 14 administrators state wide to be honored by the MIAAA, Fountain will be presented the award locally (date to be determined) as the MIAAA annual conference in Traverse City was canceled this year.
Fountain is in his fifth year as an athletic director. He is a graduate of Ferris State University and received a master’s degree from Grand Valley State University in educational leadership.

Fountain began his teaching career at Mason County Central in 1992 and has been a principal at Scottville Elementary and Lakeview Elementary before beginning his current position as athletic director of Ludington High School and OJ DeJonge Middle School.

“Mr. Fountain is one of the kindest people I have worked with during my career,” said Jennifer Vandervest, assistant to the principal at LHS. “His dealings with the students in our building encompasses so much more than athletics. Randy is often called upon to assist in discipline, student supervision and myriad of other responsibilities. I would call him the perfect example of a team player.”

“Randy possesses what I call a teacher personality,” said Mark Boon, former LHS principal. “Students gravitate to him because they know he is someone who can be trusted and will listen attentively and without judgment. He treats students and teachers properly and is rewarded with respect and mutual caring. Randy is very knowledgeable about all aspects of our sports programs…He has a pleasant demeanor, good organizational skills and the willingness to above and beyond.”

The MIAAA is a 50-plus-years-old association with nearly 700 members serving as athletic administrators in numerous high schools and junior high/middle schools in Michigan. As partners with the Michigan High School Athletic Association, the MIAAA works to promote the educational value of interscholastic athletics and the role and profession of athletic director. The MIAAA is very proud to spotlight the work of Randy Fountain, a man whose work and values best mirrors those of the association.
