Fire destroys Free Soil Township barn.

FREE SOIL TOWNSHIP — Fire destroyed a barn at the Anna Hasenbank residence, 8921 N. Schoenherr Road early Sunday morning, May 17, 2020. Free Soil/Meade Fire Department and Grant Township Fire Department were initially dispatched to the farmstead at 5:59 a.m. FMFD Fire Chief Vince Williams said the barn was fully engulfed in flames when the first fire unit arrived on scene.

“There were no animals in the barn and pretty much just hay,” Williams said, adding the structure was not insured. Williams said he did not know the cause of the fire. Though there was electricity hooked up to the barn, it was not turned on.

Custer Fire Department’s air trailer and the FMFD Auxiliary were also on scene.
Fire units cleared the scene about 10:30 a.m.
