FREE SOIL TOWNSHIP — Charges are being sought against seven people — ranging in age from 18 to 24 — following a reported break-in at the Camp Sauble Prison Friday, May 1, shortly before midnight, said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

Charges of illegal entry, damaged property and an executive order violation are being requested through the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office, Cole said. The suspects are from Muskegon and Ottawa counties.

Three teens allegedly broke into the former state prison, located at the intersection of Free Soil and Reek roads, the previous weekend. Following the investigation, a 14-year-old male and a 16-year-old male from out of county were petitioned to juvenile court and a 17-year-old Manistee male was being forwarded to the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office.

The facility is used for the Free Soil/Meade Fire Department Halloween fundraising event, Cages of Carnage. It is owned by Free Soil Township.
