LUDINGTON — First responders rescued a 28-year-old Coopersville man Thursday after his kayak apparently took on water in the Ludington channel. The man told law enforcement he was fishing from his kayak, which did include a small trolling motor. Personnel on scene at the Loomis Street boat ramps said the kayaker was about 75 yards off shore.

The man’s body temperature had dropped to the low 90s.

Responding to the scene were Ludington Police Department, Ludington Fire Department, Mason County Sheriff’s Office marine patrol, Michigan Department of Natural Resources law enforcement and Life EMS.
