LUDINGTON — Jade Free-Spirit-Bear Pelcher, 29, of 253 S. Chippewa Road, Mt. Pleasant, was arraigned in 79th District Court in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred Thursday, March 26 in Grant Township.

Pelcher has been charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, a felony punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment and/or a $5,000 fine. He was also charged with being a habitual offender.

Pelcher is being charged with allegedly stabbing a 29-year-old Mount Pleasant woman in the face, at a home located in the 1500 block of West Countyline Road, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

The victim was transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital by Life EMS and then transferred to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, where she was listed in serious condition, as of Thursday.

Deputies were responding to a “wellbeing check” after the victim contacted a friend on Facebook Messenger asking to call for help, Sheriff Cole said.

“Two MCSO deputies arrived at the residence and, upon knocking on the door, heard what sounded like a person fall to the floor just inside the door,” he said. “The two deputies entered the residence and found a female victim just inside the door, with a serious stab wound to the face.”

Deputies found Pelcher hiding in the home, but he was arrested without incident.

Bond was set at $10,000, full amount. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on April 8, 2020.
