Community COVID-19 fund established to help nonprofits.

LUDINGTON — United Way of Mason County, in partnership with Community Foundation for Mason County and Pennies from Heaven Foundation, has created a COVID-19 Relief Fund. With $15,000 of seed funding from all three organizations, plus support from Meijer and Consumers Energy Foundation, the fund will support nonprofit organizations that are helping vulnerable Mason County community members deal with the fallout from the coronavirus.

“In our county, over 45% of households struggle to meet their basic needs. That’s more than 5,400 households in Mason County. For many, one small setback can lead to a major financial hardship, especially a prolonged crisis like we are faced with right now. We’re committed to doing all we can to help those who need it most,” said Lynne Russell, United Way of Mason County executive director.

“We are so lucky to belong to a community where supporting each other is a part of the culture. The impact of the coronavirus is being felt across our area, and our goal is for these funds to be available to meet immediate needs,” added Andrea Large, Community Foundation for Mason County executive director.
Those who are able to donate may do so online here or by sending a check to United Way of Mason County, 920 E. Tinkham Ave., Ludington, 49431. Those who have a Donor Advised Fund with the community foundation, may email large, alarge@cffmc.org, to recommend a grant toward the cause.
