Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital announces community classes, wellness and safety screenings

LUDINGTON — Spectrum Heath Ludington Hospital will kick off seven months of community classes and screenings designed to promote health and safety. The classes begin March 13 and run through Oct. 27 at various locations within the Ludington Hospital at 1 N. Atkinson Dr., Ludington.

The events are designed to give participants hands-on, practical information that they can use day to day. They include: First Aid and CPR, quit tobacco and safe babysitting classes as well as biometric screenings to measure basic physical characteristics, such as blood sugar, cholesterol and other health indicators.

“It’s important for Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital to work with our community to identify what’s needed and where we can help meet those needs,” said Kaley Petersen, director of community services and foundation at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. “Through Ludington Hospital’s community health programs, we hope to connect the families we serve with resources and information that can help them be healthier and promote wellness and safety. We invite everyone in Mason and Oceana counties to be part of these informative classes and get screened.”

The First Aid and CPR classes are held in partnership with the American Heart Association, while the babysitting classes are a collaboration with Safe Sitter. Except for First Aid-CPR and Safe Sitter classes, all other events are free.

The Ludington Hospital Community Services team of Leona Ashley, community health educator; Kelly Barnhardt, RN, and tobacco treatment specialist; Kelly Davis, registered dietitian; Loree Schneider, Community Health and Wellness program coordinator; and Petersen will lead the classes and screenings.
