Django Reinhard tribute with Jimmy Grant Trio, Third Coast Swing Sunday at LACA.

LUDINGTON — An afternoon dedicated to Django Reinhard and the music of Eastern Europe will take place at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts, 107 S. Harrison St., on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. The Jimmy Grant Trio featuring Tommy Davy, a national touring musical act from California, will perform at the art center. Third Coast Swing of Ludington, featuring Steven Plummer, will kick off the afternoon of music.

The Jimmy Grant Ensemble performs primarily in the style of Django Reinhardt, infusing swing era pieces, original work, and traditional gypsy tunes with the jazz guitar pioneer’s crunchy rhythms and hot harmonies.

Grant was recently a finalist in the John Lennon songwriting competition for his original song “Insomnia,” and also had an interview with Guitar World for his “5 in 5″ project, in which he wrote five different songs in five days. His style synthesizes a rich blend of Russian folk, bluegrass, Celtic and classical music while remaining true to Django’s innovative guitar technique. The Jimmy Grant Ensemble will bring together two guitars, bass, and violin in an intimate yet energy-charged performance.

Plummer is founding member of Third Coast Swing, formerly know as Third Coast Gypsy Jazz. He has studied music at The Atlanta Institute Of Music, City College Of New York and the New School University’s Jazz And Contemporary Music. He has shared the stage with many national acts and enjoys teaching guitar at Instrumental Music, and The Ludington Area Center for the Arts. Plummer plays in Andrew Brown’s ‘Djangophonique,’ ‘Groove 101’ and The West Shore Community College Big Band.

Tickets to the Jimmy Grant Trio  with Grant Flick and Third Coast Swing are currently on sale at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts or online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/90634075961 for $10 and will also be available at the door for $15.
