Scottville DDA to consider purchasing Optimist building.

SCOTTVILLE — The Scottville Downtown Development Authority will consider purchasing the Scottville Optimist Building when it meets on Thursday, Dec. 12. The DDA has been working on a plan to acquire the building and then renovate it as a community hall. Recently, the DDA approved a lease with the Optimist Club, however the City Commission expressed concerns over certain terms of the lease and referred it to the city’s finance committee for further evaluation. The finance committee, in conversations with members of the DDA, recommended the DDA purchase the building at the asking price of $49,900.

The DDA is planning a renovation project of the property, which will be funded through private donations and possibly state grants. When completed, the building would be rented out as an indoor/outdoor venue. It would also be used for community events and would continue to be the home of the Scottville Clown Band Shell. A sculpture, dedicated to the Clown Band and the town’s agricultural heritage, is also planned for the property.

“Scottville needs this center, it is the gathering point of our town,” said DDA Chairman Joe Knowles. “The building is in great shape, despite the need for some major updates.”
