Ludington water plant supervisor, Kurt Malzahn, dies from accident injuries.

GRAND RAPIDS — Kurt Malzahn, the City of Ludington water plant supervisor, passed away Friday evening, Nov. 29, as a result of injuries sustained in an accident on Nov. 22, according to Ludington City Manager Mitch Foster.

“His family was by his side as he passed,” Foster stated. “The city is saddened by this incredible loss and hope his family is able to find peace.”

On Nov. 22, Malzahn was found unconscious by another city employee in a valve pit at the “Eagle” water tank and pump station at the corner of US 10/31 and Brye Road in Amber Township.

Emergency personnel were able to get him out of the pit and he was then transferred to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital by ambulance and then Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital by AeroMed helicopter, where he has been since.

Foster said funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
