Neighbors help prevent major damage at house fire.

SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP — The quick actions of neighbors most likely saved a house at 6590 E. Beech Road from major fire damage Thursday morning. Fountain Area Fire Department and Branch Township Fire Department were initially called to the house fire near Tallman Lake shortly after 8 a.m. Upon arrival, smoke was coming out of the eaves and ceiling of the house, according to Fountain Assistant Chief Jeremy Goble. Prior to the arrival of the first fire truck, neighbors started to put snow and water on the fire, keeping it mostly contained.

Custer Fire Department was also dispatched to assist but disregarded. Also on scene was Michigan State Police and Fountain Fire Dept. Auxiliary.

Damage was contained to the south side of the house and firefighters cleared the scene about 9:30 a.m.
