LUDINGTON — A 32-year-old Casnovia (Muskegon County) man has been arrested by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office on multiple counts of child sexually abusive activity.

The arrest of Jeffrey Lee Steiger, of 17320 Laketon Ave., took place following a four-month investigation by sheriff’s office detectives. According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, the charges allege that Steiger had secretly video-recorded persons known to him in a Pere Marquette Township residence. “Detectives also allege Steiger possessed more than 100 images of child sexually abusive material on his cell phone and/or iPad,” Cole said.

Steiger has been arraigned in Mason County’s 79th District Court on the following charges:

  • Three counts of child abusive activity—each count is a felony offense and carries a 20-year and/or $100,000 fine
  • Two counts of child sexually abusive material—aggravated possession—each count is a felony offense and carries a 10-year and/or $50,000 fine
  • Two counts of criminal sexual conduct—fourth degree (incapacitated victim)—each count is a two-year misdemeanor with a $500 fine.
Steiger has been arraigned and released upon posting a $10,000.00 cash/surety bond.

Steiger was previously arrested June 30, 2019 by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) on felony charges of surveilling an unclothed person and capturing/distributing images of an unclothed person.
