PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Mason County Planning Commission is recommending the county Board of Commissions lift a $50,000 performance guarantee (bond) from Consumers Energy at the Lake Winds Energy Park substation at 4220 S. Pere Marquette Highway. According to terms established in 2011, Consumers Energy was required to maintain landscaping at the substation which was built on the site of a house. The guarantee was subject to review after five years and was renewed in 2016 due to several of the trees in that area being in poor condition.

“Consumers replanted the trees specified by the Planning Commission; however, there are still some trees that have died,” Planning Director Brady Selner stated in a memo to the planning commission.

Commissioners agreed that there were only a small percentage of trees that have not lived and that Consumers has made strides to comply with the request.
