LPD beard funds will go towards Shop with a Cop.

LUDINGTON — Ludington Police Department is allowing its male police officers to grow facial hair (with mustache pins available for female department members who chose to participate) for a good cause. Those in violation of the department’s no-facial hair policy will be charged “fines”, which go towards the 2019 Shop with a Cop program, Chief Mark Barnett said. Each department employee in violation will pay $1 a day.

“The hope is to draw attention for the purpose of the 2019 Pie Auction, Shop with a Cop and Shop with a hero,” Barnett said.

“The facial hair and mustache pins will obviously be a point of discussion with those in the community. Officers are encouraged to use this conversation piece to make people aware of the upcoming fundraising events.”

LPD is accepting donations of any amount to help support families in need during Christmas. Donations should be made out to the Ludington Police Department-Shop with a Cop and can be dropped off at the Ludington City Hall or Ludington Police Department any time between now and Christmas 2019.
