Sugar Grove Road to close between Stiles and US 31; Stiles remains closed.

VICTORY TOWNSHIP — Sugar Grove Road between Stiles Road and US-31 will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, Sept. 9. The Mason County Road Commission will be adding gravel to the edges of the existing asphalt roadway in preparation for new asphalt, according to Eric Nelson, Mason County Road Commission highway engineer. 

The widening phase will take about one week. The roadway will be reopened to traffic after adding the gravel until the asphalt paving can be scheduled, Nelson said. The existing road is approximately 22-feet to 23-feet wide and will be widened to 28 feet after asphalt paving is completed. The final asphalt paving will take about four days to complete. 

Barricades will be placed on Sugar Grove Road at Stiles Road and US-31 warning motorist of the road closure due to MCRC crews widening the roadway. Residents that live on this section of Sugar Grove Road, emergency responders, school busses picking up or dropping off students will have access to the closed section of Stiles Road. “Please proceed with caution and expect delays,” Nelson said. 

Stiles Road between Hansen and Fisher roads remains closed due to the water main construction project from US 10/31 to West Shore Community College. The detour continues to be Hansen Road west to Victory Corners Road north to Fisher Road. 

SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — Darr Road north of Sugar Grove Road remains closed to through traffic. The MCRC is removing clay, adding a sand lift and aggregate base. Work continues this section of roadway and is anticipated to be reopened to traffic Tuesday or Wednesday next week. 

Sugar Grove Road between US-31 and Tuttle Road was be reopened to all traffic Thursday, Sept. 5. The three culverts have been replaced, according to Eric Nelson, Mason County Road Commission highway engineer. “There are short gravel sections at the location of the culvert replacements, please slow down at these locations marked with orange plastic barrels,” Nelson said. “The gravel sections will be paved with asphalt in the next few weeks.” 

Decker Road between US-31 and Darr Road was also reopened to all traffic on Sept. 5. The culvert has been replaced. Nelson said there is a short gravel section in a portion of Decker Road at the location of the culvert replacement. The gravel section at the culvert will be paved with asphalt in the next few weeks.
