SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP — James Russell Davidson, 50, of Sheridan Township man remains in critical condition at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. Davidson was injured late Monday evening, Sept. 2, following a rollover crash on North Benson Road. Emergency personnel were called to the 2000 block of North Benson Road, between Decker and Borowski roads, at 10:46 p.m.

According to Mason County Sheriff Sgt. Jeremy King, on the scene, Davidson was traveling northbound in a 1998 GMC extended cab pickup truck, left the roadway, and traveled several hundred yards, off the road before striking and damaging a utility pole and then rolling over several times before the vehicle stopped, on its side, in the roadway.

A passerby said he was on his way home from work when he came upon the vehicle. He said Davidson was trapped in the vehicle. The passerby said he and others attempted to clear away debris to assist with first responders as they arrived.

Davidson, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was wearing his seatbelt, King said. He was transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital and was flown by helicopter to a Grand Rapids trauma center.

Emergency units responding included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Fountain Area Fire Department, and Life EMS.
