District Court sentencings, posted Sept. 5, 2019.

LUDINGTON — The following were recently sentenced in Mason County’s 79th District Court:

-Jason Wayne Cole, 45, of 507 E. Filer St., Ludington, pleaded guilty Aug. 28 to attempted assault/resisting/obstructing police and disorderly person drunk. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail with credit for two days served; one year discretionary jail for one year; no drugs/alcohol/marijuana; subject to random PBTs and drug tests; and $1,065 in fines/costs. A charge of assault/resisting/obstructing a police officer was dismissed.

-Cody Charles Bruno, 24, of 4735 N. Lakeshore Dr., Hamlin Township, pleaded guilty Sept. 3 to operating a vehicle while impaired by liquor (OUIL) and was sentenced to two days in jail with credit for two days served; 93 days discretionary jail for one year; must attend victim’s impact panel; no drugs/alcohol/marijuana/controlled substances; subject to random PBTs and drug tests; must attend the DUI2 Program; and $870 in fines/costs. Conviction is reportable to Secretary of State (SOS). A charge of failure to report an accident was dismissed.

-Kegan David Strait, 18, of 2924 W. VanBuren, Hart, pleaded guilty Sept. 3 to OUIL underage (blood alcohol level .02-.07) and was sentenced to pay $310 in fines/costs; must attend victim’s impact panel; no drugs/alcohol; and must complete alcohol highway safety education. Conviction is reportable to SOS. A charge of transporting an open intoxicant in a motor vehicle was dismissed.

-Jeffrey Michael Schwartz, 32, of 1645 Stonybrook Dr., Jenison, pleaded guilty Sept. 3 to operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) and was sentenced to one day in jail with credit for one day served;  93 days discretionary jail for two years; must attend victim’s impact panel; no drugs/alcohol; subject to random PBTs; must continue current outpatient recovery program; and $1,295 in fines/costs. Conviction is reportable to SOS.

-Lavelle Jacquin Jennings, 29, of 6480 W. Linden Rd., Hamlin Township, pleaded guilty Sept. 3 to using a controlled substance (narcotic or cocaine) and was sentenced to one day in jail with credit for one day served; one year discretionary jail for one year; must abide by all conditions of parole; no drugs/alcohol/marijuana; subject to random PBTs and drug tests; driver’s license suspended 30 days and revoked 150 days; and $125 in fines/costs. Conviction is reportable to SOS.

-Erik Matthew Doffing, 27, of 7005 Tenth St., Hamlin Township, pleaded guilty Sept. 3 to failure to maintain security (no vehicle insurance) and was sentenced to two days in jail with credit for two days served; one year discretionary jail for one year; and $735 in fines/costs. Conviction is reportable to SOS. A charge of second offense driving while license suspended was dismissed.

-Tessy Lee Hathaway, 38, of 3320 N. Lakeshore Dr., Hamlin Township, pleaded guilty Sept. 3 to failure to maintain security (no vehicle insurance) and was sentenced to one year discretionary jail for one year and $735 in fines/costs. Conviction is reportable to SOS. A charge of allowing a suspended/revoked person to drive was dismissed.

 

Dismissals

-Matthew Todd Reid, 55, of 437 Third St., Manistee, had a charge of operating without security (no vehicle insurance) dismissed without prejudice on Aug. 27 after pleading guilty to a civil infraction.

-Joseph Benjamin Ter-Haar, 33, of 3060 N. Amber Rd., Victory Township, had charges of improper plates, failure to display a valid driver’s license, driving while license suspended, and failure to maintain security (no vehicle insurance) dismissed with prejudice on Sept. 3.
