Driver who hit construction workers, killing one, sentenced.

MANISTEE – The driver who hit two construction workers, killing one, last September was sentenced Wednesday, Aug. 21, in 85th District Court.

Charlene Myers, 67, was sentenced to 14 days in jail starting Aug. 23; 180 days on house arrest while wearing a GPS tether; two years probation; and $2,825 in restitution, according to UpNorthLive.com (7&4 News).

Myers hit Andre Alvesteffer, 20, of Pentwater and Damon Williamson, 23, of Ludington with her car as they were working at a construction site on US 31 in Bear Lake.

Alvesteffer ultimately died from the collision while Williamson suffered life-threatening injuries. Both men were Mason County Central High School graduates.

Myers pleaded “no contest” to misdemeanor charges of moving violation causing death and moving violation causing serious injury.
At the time, officials said speed was a factor in the crash and police reports show Myers told a witness at the scene that she “blacked out.”
