Combat vets donate over $3k to Miss Sawyer’s Kids with a Cause.

AMBER TOWNSHIP — On Saturday, Aug. 10, members of Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chapter 35-4 “The Lost Boys” presented a check for $3,053.50 to 10-year-old Sawyer Hendrickson of Miss Sawyer’s Kids with a Cause at the Mason County Veterans Memorial located adjacent to Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Ludington, 3060 W. US 10/31.

The group held its inaugural Benefit Ride and Fundraiser Dinner at the Manistee VFW on Aug. 3 with proceeds going to Miss Sawyer’s organization. The 2020 event has been scheduled for Aug. 1, 2020.

Miss Sawyer’s Kids with a Cause was founded by Sawyer in 2016 when she was 6-years-old. Her older brother, Kylar Hendrickson had joined the Marine Corps and in response Sawyer started sending a few dozen care packages to her brother and his fellow Marines. Since that time, over 25,000 packages are sent annually to American troops around the world. In addition, over 5,000 filled Christmas stockings are sent to troops who are unable to return to their families during the holidays.

Sawyer also attends over 150 Veterans events a year nationwide and is a guest speaker at more than half of them. She has laid six wreaths at the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier and recently was a guest speaker in Washington, D.C. for Rolling Thunder’s 32nd Annual Ride for Freedom in front of an estimated 1.5 million people. She visits over 50 different military bases around the country annually and hands out hand painted “Hero Rocks” to members of the Armed Forces. To date, she has handed out nearly 18,000 Hero Rocks since she turned 9 a year and a half ago.

The ultimate goal according to one of the event organizers, Lost Boys member and U.S. Army Combat Veteran Rick “Skid” Rowe is to make this recurring annual event a primary fundraiser to help ease the financial strain of Sawyer’s mission so that she can continue to travel to spread her message at events and make appearances with veterans and to help send her care packages to those who are currently serving in the military.

Proceeds from this event will be used towards  Sawyer’s Stockings Military Christmas Care Package Project.
