LPD issues tickets to breakwater violators

LUDINGTON — Since July 19, Ludington Police Department has issued 10 citations to individuals ignoring the closure of the north breakwater, according to Police Chief Mark Barnett.

The breakwater remains closed this morning, July 23, 2019.  The weather forecast calls for winds out of the north-northwest at 10-15 mph.  Due to high water levels any wave action is expected to wash over the breakwater, Barnett said adding that the intention is to re-evaluate the closure at noon when the beach officer is on duty.

“Even though the wave conditions have improved all the marine assets will be participating in the search effort at the state park,” he said (see related story here).  “Any marine response to a call for assistance at the breakwater will be delayed due to travel time back to the Ludington harbor.”
