Wisconsin motorcyclist dies following US 10 crash.

AMBER TOWNSHIP — A 58-year-old Wisconsin man died Saturday following a motorcycle/pickup truck crash on US 10 east at the intersection of the US 31 bypass just outside of Scottville. The crash occurred about 1:04 p.m.

According to Mason County Sheriff Deputy Adam Lamb, who was investigating the scene, the victim was leading a group of motorcyclists eastbound on US 10 and had intended to turn north on US 31, but missed the turn. Lamb said witnesses said the victim then led the group into a driveway on the south side of the highway and proceeded to make a U-turn and re-enter the highway, driving into the path of an eastbound pickup truck driven by a 50-year-old Fennville woman. The pickup struck the motorcycle broadside. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

The crash closed US 10 between US 31 bypass and Reinberg Avenue in Scottville for several hours (still closed as of posting at 3:25 p.m.).

Emergency units on scene included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Scottville Police Department, Scottville Fire Department, Custer Fire Department, Life EMS, and Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

The crash remains under investigation. However, Sheriff Kim Cole said neither alcohol nor speed were factors in the crash. The victim was wearing a helmet. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family.
