Obituary: Evelyn Pehr, 96, Ludington.

Evelyn Jean Pehr, 96, of Ludington, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019.  Jean was born on October 1, 1922 in Decatur, Mich., the daughter of the late Sylvester and Irene (Mattox) Sunday.  On March 11, 1939, she married Robert G. Pehr and he preceded her in death in 1988.  Jean resided in Muskegon before moving to Ludington in 2005.

Jean retired from the Muskegon Public School system in 1984 and was a member of the Scottville United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed playing Mexican train dominoes and other card games weekly with her friends at Longfellow Towers in Ludington and spending time with family throughout the years until her health declined.

Jean is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Linda Maddix of Ludington; and her son Robert (Nancy) Pehr of Las Cruces, NM; her grandchildren, Scott (Terri) Barber of Ludington, Michael Barber of Lake Ann, Tamra (Kevin) Billings, Teresa (Darrell) Chastain, and Sean Pehr all of Washington, and Romel (Jonathan) Retzlaff of California; her step-grandchildren, Debbie (Dwayne) Salmon of Dorr, and Wesley (Beth) Maddix of Ludington.  Jean is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, her sisters Winifred Sunday and Doris Monroe, and her son-in-law Tom Maddix.

A Celebration of Jean’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 8 at the Scottville United Methodist Church, with Pastor Rick Hodgeson officiating. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Muskegon at 2 p.m.  Friends may meet with her family for a time of visitation on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Those who wish to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Scottville United Methodist Church.
