FREE SOIL TOWNSHIP – A 61-year-old man who nearly drowned after falling out of a pontoon boat in Gun Lake Tuesday, July 2, may be charged with drunk boating, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. in the 7000 block of North Poplar Road when the man “reportedly fell out of a pontoon boat he was operating and went under the surface of the water,” Cole said.

“Witnesses pulled the subject out of the water and performed CPR, saving the man’s life. He was transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital by Life EMS where he is expected to survive. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor, and a report will be submitted to the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office related to operating while intoxicated – boat.”
