Freedom Festival traffic plans announced.

LUDINGTON — Traffic plans have been announced for the upcoming Ludington Area Jaycees Freedom Festival grand parade and fireworks on July 4. The traffic plans are a coordinated effort between Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Ludington Police Department, Michigan State Police, Ludington Fire Department, and Pere Marquette Township Fire Department.

Grand Parade (start time 2 p.m.):

Ludington Avenue: restricted beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Madison Street: Closed up through end of parade.

Downtown parking: cleared by noon.

Note that westbound Ludington Avenue from Park Street to Lakeshore Drive will be closed for a short time immediately following the parade.

Fireworks

Stearns Park: Closed to traffic at 5 p.m. All parking is first come, first served on July 4. Some handicap spaces will be available.

At 10:30 p.m. all traffic lights through Ludington and out to Brye Road will be switched to flashing. Preference will be given to eastbound traffic on Ludington Avenue and U.S. 10.

U.S. 10: traffic will be nonstop eastbound in the right lane. There will also be westbound traffic allowed. There will be no traffic permitted to turn north onto Jebavy Drive or Nelson Road from US 10. The intersection of Jebavy and US 10 will be monitored by police while the Nelson Road intersection will be barricaded.

Jebavy Drive: traffic will be directed northbound at Bryant Road, Johnson Road and then eastbound on Rasmussen Road. All traffic coming south on Jebavy Drive will be directed east on Rasmussen Road. Northbound Jebavy Drive traffic will be allowed to turn east on Rasmussen Road or continue to travel north on Jebavy Drive.

Rasmussen Road/Hansen Road: Traffic will be allowed to go east or west. Westbound traffic will be directed north on Jebavy Drive, however. Eastbound traffic may proceed as normal. Drivers are encouraged to travel to Stiles Road or US 31 where there are traffic lights at US 10.

Pere Marquette Highway: traffic will be southbound on Conrad Road east. Iris Road traffic will only be eastbound and then south on Pere Marquette Highway. There will be no northbound traffic allowed from traffic control points on First Street, Sixth Street and Iris Road. Avoid the intersection of US 10 and Pere Marquette Highway as traffic traveling east will remain constant.

Nelson Road: No southbound traffic.
