Obituary: Robert J. “Pinky” Pinkerton, 87, Scottville.

Robert J. “Pinky” Pinkerton of Scottville passed away peacefully at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital on Thursday, April 25 at the age of 87.

Pinky graduated from Scottville High School in 1950 and married Marlene Joyce Drier Pinkerton on September 21, 1957.

Pinky was a life member and one of the founding members of the original group to re-start the Scottville Clown Band in 1947. He loved traveling and marching with the band in all the parades each summer.

He graduated from Ferris Institute in 1954 with a degree in Pharmacy and entered the United States Army that same year, serving in France in the army hospital pharmacy corp. After the service, he returned to Scottville to work with his father at Pinkerton Drug Store. He later became a partner with his father. After the drug store was sold, he purchased Benow’s clothing store in the building next to the pharmacy and operated this store for many years.

Following his retirement from retail business, he and Marlene loved spending time in Florida. He went to Disney World at least 4 or 5 times a week and became very well known to most who worked in the Disney Park.

For many years Pinky was very close friends with Scottville native Edgar Struble. Through this friendship, his love of and his talent for music, he also became friends with Kenny Rogers.

Pinky will be greatly missed by his brother Jim (Marilyn) Pinkerton and his two sons Brian (Barb) Pinkerton and Brad Pinkerton and his friend Janni. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Alan, Lisa, Jeremy and Katie Pinkerton. He was preceded in death by Marlene, his wife of 52 years, his parents Bob and Rose Pinkerton, his older sister Beverly Lucken and her daughter Linda Lucken.

A memorial service for Robert Pinkerton will be held at the Ludington United Methodist Church on June 7 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scottville Clown Band, P.O. Box 21, Scottville, MI 49454.
