EAST LANSING — The Ludington High School Quiz Bowl Team won the state class B championship today, Saturday, April 13, following a two day, double elimination tournament at Michigan State University.

“We competed Friday and went undefeated, beating Manistee 375-195, Ionia 505 to 135 and Forest Hills Eastern 435-170,” said Coach Amber Nasson. “We faced Chelsea in the semifinals today, defeating them 310 -240. In the finals we faced Detroit Country Day, who fought their way out of the losers bracket. We lost to them in the first game, 405-105, but because it’s double elimination, they had to beat us again to win. However, we didn’t let that happen. The team kept its head in the game 100% and we won 335-260, offering DCD its first state loss since 2014, and only one of three losses in the past 11 years.

“Ludington’s quiz bowl team played with integrity, twice telling the judges they made mistakes and didn’t deserve points awarded,” Nasson said. “We like to say that we would rather lose with integrity than win without it. I was so proud of how they played. It’s a great day to be an Oriole.”

Senior Megan Mulherin was also named to the All State Team, Nasson said.
