Obituary: Richard Eugene Wojtaszak, 87, of Ludington.

Richard Eugene Wojtaszak, 87, of Ludington passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019. He was born August 27, 1931 in Ludington to Frank and Rose (Ptaszenski) Wojtaszak. Richard graduated from St. Simon Catholic High School  in 1950. He married the late Nancy Yonkers on August 31, 1951 in Pasadena CA. Richard and Nancy moved to California where they were married and he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. They spent three years there until they realized that they wanted to raise their family back home in Ludington.
Richard worked as a Butcher at Bonser’s Market for over 40 years, starting when he was 14. He was a member of the American Legion Edwin H. Ewing Post #76 in Ludington, and he enjoyed playing poker.  Richard loved working in his yard and he took great pride in his garden. He has spent the last 20 years enjoying retirement with his companion Joan Towns.

Richard will be greatly missed by his loving companion, Joan; his children, Chris (Tom) Hanson of Ludington, Debbie (Gordie) Forrester of Ludington, Steve (Sandra) Wojtaszak of Ocala Fla., Kevin (Laurie) Wojtaszak of Ludington, Darryl Wojtaszak of Comstock Park, and Shelley (Kurt McDiarmid) Sterly; his 10 grandchildren, Kelly (Kyle), Jeff (Lisa), Trisha (Darryll), Jodi  (Tom), Shawn, Timothy (Cassie), Brad (Haley), Calvin, Jordan, and Colleen; his eight great-grandchildren, Kiara, Ali, Brandon, Jake, Jayla, Lainey, Kamryn, and Kase; his sisters, Connie Magnussen and Mary Ann Talsma; and his sister-in-law, Barb Watt.

Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife Nancy; his son, Rick Wojtaszak; his sister, Dorothy Patterson; his brothers, Raymond Wojtaszak, Larry Watt, and Donald Watt.

A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington. Richard will be laid to rest next to his wife at Pere Marquette Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Richard’s name may be directed to St. Simon Catholic Church.
