2019 world record attempt: largest dessert party.

February 16, 2019

The 2016 world record was world’s longest ice cream dessert.

2019 world record attempt: largest dessert party.

LUDINGTON — Ludington will go for another world record this summer with the attempt to hold the largest dessert party on Saturday, June 8 at Rotary Park.

The current Guinness record of 1,445 people is held by the baker Mr. Puff in Vadodara, India. The Downtown Ludington Board, which will be the official record holder, if the attempt is successful, is planning to host at least 2,000 people at its outdoor dessert party.

In 2016, the House of Flavors Restaurant achieved the Guinness World Record of world’s longest ice cream dessert by creating a continuous ice cream sundae on Ludington Avenue that stretched from Lakeshore Drive to James Street.

That record was held briefly until defeated by another Michigan ice cream restaurant. The following year, Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital broke the record for the most people making sand angels at Stearns Park beach. In 2018, the Shoreline Cycling Club attempted to break the longest line of bikes, both moving and static but fell just short of the record.

Treats will be provided by several downtown Ludington businesses

The event is free for all ages. Participants need to show up at Rotary Park on June 8th at 3 p.m. to register and at 4 p.m. they will be served treats. The event planning committee is asking those who want to be a part of the attempt to RSVP on EventBrite so it can plan accordingly. The EventBrite RSVP will only serve as a measurement for the committee to plan on how many people may be attending. It does not guarantee you a spot at the dessert party. For logistics purposes, participation will be capped on the day of the event.

The Downtown Ludington Board is a non-profit organization that aims to support businesses within the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) district via special events and marketing. Learn more about the efforts of the organization at DowntownLudington.org or Facebook.com/DowntownLudington.
