Benyo selected as Scottville commissioner.

SCOTTVILLE — Brian Benyo was selected as the newest city commissioner Monday during the commission’s regular meeting. Benyo was among three people who applied for the position to replace Leon Begue, one of the two first ward commissioners. Begue resigned in December for medical reasons. The other two candidates were Mary Waller and Ed Huhn.

During a committee of the whole meeting, Mayor Bruce Krieger asked each of the candidates interview questions. During the regular meeting, commissioners were able to ask the candidates questions.

Benyo was selected through a motion with 5 commissions voted in favor and Commissioner Sue Petipren voted against. Benyo will be sworn in during the next regular meeting, Feb. 18. The position will be up for election in 2020.
