3 interested in Scottville commission seat.

SCOTTVILLE — Three people have applied to be considered for the first ward commissioner seat left vacant following the resignation of Leon Begue. Begue resigned due to health reasons.

Mary Waller, Brian Benyo and Ed Hahn have applied for the vacancy to fill the four-year term.

On Monday, Feb. 4, the commission will interview each of the candidates in open session beginning at 4:30 p.m. During its regular meeting, beginning at 5:30 p.m., the commission will then appoint the new commissioner.

Waller and Benyo are new to city government but are long-term residents of the city. Hahn had been elected to a first ward commissioner seat in November 2014 and resigned in January 2016. In November 2016 he ran for election for an at-large commissioner seat but was defeated by incumbent Connie Duncil.

In other business, during the commission’s regular meeting Monday, Jan. 22, it appointed Russ Scholtens to the Downtown Development Authority. Scholtens, along with his dad, Ray, own Ray Scholtens Plumbing, 405 S. Main St. They recently purchased the former Cox’s Sales & Service building at 124 S. Main and plan to open a retail plumbing store there.
