LUDINGTON — A 45-year-old Sherman Township man admitted in 51st Circuit Court Tuesday, Aug. 14, to using his mother’s checks to illegally obtain over $2,700.

Christopher Wayne Bailey, of 3079 N. Tuttle Rd., pleaded guilty to one felony count of uttering and publishing. A second count was dismissed.

In exchange for his plea, he will serve one year in jail as part of a plea agreement. He will also serve a term of probation, which will include a substance abusers evaluation, said Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola.

The maximum penalty is 14 years in prison, but Bailey’s extensive criminal history elevates his maximum penalty to life in prison, Spaionla said. Prior convictions include drug delivery, receiving and concealing firearms and felony firearms possession, said Judge Susan K. Sniegowski.

His sentence will include paying $2,763.78 in restitution to his mother.

Sentencing is set for Sept. 25 at 2:15 p.m.
