Darr Road bridges to close for construction.

SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — The Darr Road bridges between Sugar Grove and Mavis roads and also south of Fountain Road will be closed to all traffic beginning Monday, June 11.

Construction of the bridge over the South Branch of the Lincoln River between Sugar Grove and Mavis roads will include removal of the existing 26-feet long by 16-feet wide bridge that was built in 1900. The new bridge will be 36-feet long by 29-feet wide with a 26-feet clear width concrete box beam with a six-feet concrete deck.

The Darr Road bridge south of Fountain Road over the North Branch of the Lincoln River will be removed and replaced as well. The bridge is a single span structure 36-feet long by 16-feet wide that was built in 1900. The new bridge will be 46-feet long by 19-feet wide with a 16-feet clear width concrete box beam with a 6-feet concrete deck.

Both bridges are scheduled to be completed by Sept. 28, 2018.

The $786,000 project is funded by the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Mason County Road Commission.
