Russell Phillip Folland

Obituary: Russell Folland, 69, Custer.

Russell Phillip Folland Jr, 69, of Custer, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018.

Russell was born on March 31, 1949 in Royal Oak, the son of Russel and Norma (Weber) Folland.  He graduated from Mason County Central High School in 1968 and attended West Shore Community College.  Russell was a sergeant in the United States Army, the 25th Infantry Division, during Vietnam.  He was honorably discharged in 1970, receiving both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals.  On August 12, 1972, he married Patricia Schramm in Custer.

Russell enjoyed hunting, gambling, TV and movies, music, and gardening.  Following in his father’s footsteps, he also raised poultry and other livestock.  Russell spent a lot of time hanging out with his friends and family.  He was a loving and caring husband who always made time to put a smile on his wife’s face.  Russell raised his children with a good balance of discipline and encouragement.  He was a strong foundation for the family and made great memories, even by simply sitting in the truck, singing with his kids.

Russell is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patricia Folland; children, Jeremy (Bethany) Folland and Raquel “Kelly” (Anthony) Peters; grandchildren, Jordon Abbe, Ian Folland, and Hannah Folland; siblings, Joseph Folland, Linnea (Rich) Walters, Lesley Huber, and Kathy Folland; and in-laws, Richard “Tim” (Theresa) Schramm, Pamela Chimel, Peggy Schramm, Robin (Michael) Ryan, Bill Schramm, and Linda (“Monk”) Wahr, as well as many nephews, nieces and friends.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Russel and Norma Folland; and parents-in-law, Richard and Marilyn Schramm.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 12:00 pm at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington, with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m.  A luncheon and celebration of Russ’s life will immediately follow the services at the VFW Post 5096 Custer. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
