LUDINGTON — Drug overdoses are the suspected causes of two separate deaths that occurred over the weekend, according to Ludington Police Capt. Mike Harrie.

At 2:57 p.m. on Friday, May 11, emergency personnel responded to the 300 block of East Melendy Street where a 24-year-old Ludington man died. At 2:32 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, emergency personnel responded to the 100 block of North Washington Ave. where a 34-year-old Ludington man died. Harrie said both men were dead when first responders arrived on scene and Narcan was not administered. The names of the victims were not officially released. The Ludington Police Department is investigating both deaths and awaiting toxicology reports.

In addition to LPD, Ludington Fire Department medical first responders and Life EMS ambulance also responded to both incidences.

There have been seven overdose-related incidents in the City of Ludington this year.

A community discussion is being held Tuesday, May 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the West Shore Bank Room of the Ludington branch of the Mason County District Library. The event will feature Dr. Michelle Kuster of Connexion Point rehabilitation services. It is being organized by Leeward Initiative, a local collaboration that is addressing drug and alcohol abuse in the area.
