Arts center to host pottery, oil painting sessions for children.

LUDINGTON — The Ludington Area Center for the Arts (LACA), 107 S. Harrison St., and Ludington-based artist Mary Case will host a pair of pottery workshops for children.

Kids Clay with Mary Case will be offered in two sessions during the month of April. Tuesday workshops, geared towards children ages 10 to 18 will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. beginning April 3. The cost is $60 for the four week workshop and includes all materials. Thursday workshops, geared towards children ages 3 to 9 will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. beginning April 5. The cost is $40 for the four week workshop and includes all materials.

Class size is limited to 12 students. Contact LACA at 231-845-2787 to sign up.

Case, a visually impaired artist, owns the gallery Art By Mary Case, 329 E. Dowland St., in Ludington. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in fine Arts concentrating on drawing, painting, ceramics and illustration with a minor in creative writing from Siena Heights University in Adrian, Mich.

Children interested in learning the art of oil painting are invited to attend the Ludington Area Center for the Arts’ Oil “Painting for Kids with Justin Gustafson” class taking place on Saturdays in April.

Beginning April 7 and continuing each Saturday through April 28 Gustafson will instruct children, ages 10 and up, oil painting techniques in LACA’s second story Craft Room from 1-2:30 p.m.

The cost for the four session class is $100 or $30 per session; all materials and supplies are included in the cost of the class. Children can attend all four sessions or register for individual ones. Gustafson will be teaching the class so newcomers will be able to keep up with those who have already attended previous classes. Oil painting can be messy, so students are encouraged to wear clothing that can get covered in paint.

Contact LACA at 231-845-2787 to register.
