Hamlin man seriously injured following UTV crash.

HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — Michael Scott Shelley, 44, of Hamlin Township was seriously injured after the UTV recreational vehicle he was driving rolled multiple times after striking a deer. The crash occurred about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2018 in the 4500 block of Sherman Road, between Mavis and Fountain roads.

According to Mason County sheriff deputies on scene, the vehicle was southbound on Sherman Road and struck a deer, killing the animal. The vehicle then rolled multiple times and the driver and his dog, were ejected. The dog was uninjured. Shelley was transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital and then flown by helicopter to a Grand Rapids trauma center.

Responding to the scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Hamlin Township Fire Department, and Life EMS ambulance. Ludington Fire Department rescue unit was initially dispatched by disregarded.
