Scottville festivals to consolidate into a summer celebration.

SCOTTVILLE —The Summer Fest and Harvest Festival are consolidating into one event that will take place the weekend after July 4. Members of the former Harvest Festival committee and the Summer Fest committee met with the media today to make the announcement. Essentially, a new event is being created with highlights from both celebrations being combined.

Jamie Healy and Chad Nelson, representing the former Harvest Festival, along with Amy Williams, representing the Summer Fest, said the summer event, scheduled for Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7, will include a motorized vehicle show, queen competition, entertainment tent, rubber duck race, car cruise, and several other events.

“We are trying to combine some of the things that made the Harvest Festival great and what has made the Summer Fest great, but realizing that the times have changed and we have to change with those times,” Healy said.

The decision to essentially eliminate the September Harvest Festival was not an easy one, Nelson said. “We surveyed the community and several people on social media offered to help. But, when it really came down to showing up, nobody appeared.”

The two committees will now be combined and will begin immediately planning the new, yet-to-be-named event. They said volunteers are needed in order to make it a success. For now, those interested in helping can contact Scottville City Hall at 231-757-4729.
