Father Marquette Memorial decals available.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Riverflats Coffee & Tea, 1975 S. Pere Marquette Highway, is giving away Father Marquette Memorial decals. Owner Paul Piper said someone stopped by the shop over the weekend and dropped off the decals and asked that they be given away to anyone wishing to support saving the memorial.

The memorial, honoring one of the area’s earliest explorers, is currently being renovated by Pere Marquette Charter Township. A group from Muskegon has challenged the legality of the township owning the memorial which features a large cross, claiming it violates the First Amendment.
