Defendant in meth case: ‘I apologize to my family for all of the heartache I have caused them.’

LUDINGTON — A 27-year-old Irons man was sentenced to serve nine months up front of a one-year discretionary jail term for convictions of methamphetamine possession and purchasing/possessing ephedrine/pseudoephedrine to make meth Tuesday, Sept. 12, in 51st Circuit Court to
“I apologize to my family for all of the heartache I have caused them,” said Jonathan Wayne Colwell, of 6989 N. Bass Lake, to Judge Susan K. Sniegowski.
Colwell pleaded guilty to the charges last July.
He was arrested last April by the State, Sheriffs’, Chiefs’ Enforcement of Narcotics Team (SSCENT) on charges of aiding and abetting the manufacture of meth; operating/maintaining a meth lab; and operating/maintaining a laboratory involving hazardous waste and second-offense habitual offender.
His original charges were dismissed when Colwell pleaded guilty to the added two counts.
“Mr. Colwell was using meth on a regular basis and purchasing supplies, so someone else could cook,” said Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola.
Colwell previously testified that he was arrested in the Village of Fountain and possessed meth in “powder form.” He also told the judge that the he purchased the meth ingredients of ephedrine/pseudoephedrine at the local Walmart store.
Colwell, who was also ordered to serve two years probation, received credit for 149 days already served in jail.
