LUDINGTON — The Ludington City Council unanimously appointed David Bourgette to fill the sixth ward councilor seat during its regular meeting Monday. The seat was left vacant when Gary Castonia resigned after accepting appointment to the Mason County Board of Commissioners.

Bourgette has been the owner of Viking Arms Motel for 27 years. While he has not served in local government, he is a member of the Ludington Area Convention and Visitors Bureau board of directors, he stated in his letter of intent. “I feel I would be able to contribute in a positive way to the (city council).”

The council received interest from two people for the position that represents an area roughly bordered to the west by Rowe Street, the north by Ludington Avenue, then Brother Street, Diana Street, and Lawndale Street, the city’s eastern limit, and on the south by Danaher to Staffon then Melendy to the eastern limit.

Carrie Rangel Kosla also applied for the position. In her letter to the council, Kosla stated that she has been a member of the Downtown Development Authority for many years “as well as actively participating in the planning and execution of the many marketing plans and events that the city holds…”
