LUDINGTON — Four people were taken to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital after a water emergency in Lake Michigan at Stearns Park Friday afternoon. Ludington Police Chief Mark Barnett said three teenaged girls were in the water near the north breakwater when two of the girls apparently began struggling. An male onlooker jumped in the water to assist before emergency crews arrived. Barnett said the rescuer had some scrapes from the incident. He and the three girls were then transported to the hospital.

Barnett said the north breakwater has been closed due to weather conditions. More details on the emergency will be released later, Barnett said.

Responding to the scene were Ludington Police Department, Ludington Fire Department, Ludington marine patrol, and Life EMS ambulance.
