LUDINGTON — Police are investigating the theft of a 2014 Chevy Malibu from the 800 block of South Madison Street that was recovered early Thursday morning at the Ludington State Park on M-116 in Hamlin Township.
“There is information that may lead us to a suspect,” said Ludington Police Chief Mark Barnett.
The car was recovered at 4:35 a.m. by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office after a park ranger reported “a high-speed vehicle which had failed to stop and identify for a ranger at the entrance to the state park,” said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. “The vehicle was located parked inside the state park, unoccupied. It was discovered to have been stolen out of the City of Ludington.”
The case has been turned over to the Ludington Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Aaron Sailor at 231-843-3425.

  • 9:47 a.m., (Michigan State Police), a 23-year-old Wellston man was arrested following a hit-and-run crash, US 31 and US 10, Amber Township.
  • 1:24 p.m., (MSP), an 18-year-old Scottville woman was arrested for domestic violence, 1000 block of Esther Street, Amber Township.
  • 3:22 p.m., (MCSO), ​a 34-year-old Ludington woman was cited for driving while license suspended (DWLS) following a traffic stop, US 10 and Nelson Road, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 3:41 p.m., (LPD), larceny, 1000 block of East Tinkham Street, City of Ludington.
  • 3:50 p.m., (MCSO), two-vehicle crash, no injuries, US 10-31 and Brye Road, Amber Township.
  • 3:54 p.m., ​(MCSO) a 52-year-old Muskegon man was arrested for fourth-offense operating under the influence of drugs and second-offense DWLS following a traffic stop related to motorists calls reporting a reckless driver, US 31 freeway near Oceana Drive, Summit Township.
  • 6:50 p.m., (LPD), larceny, 400 block of East Loomis Street, City of Ludington.
  • 7:51 p.m., (LPD), larceny, South Adams and East Sixth Street, City of Ludington.
  • 10:46 p.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injuries, US 31 and Free Soil Road, Free Soil Township.
