Darlene Hahn

Obituary: Darlene Hahn, 85, Ludington.

Darlene Ann Hahn, 85, of Ludington, passed away peacefully June 7, 2017 at home with family, joining her husband of 66 years, the late William Henry Hahn who preceded her to heaven by just 47 days.

She was born October 8, 1931 in Muskegon to the late William “Curly” and Viola Bertha Rynearson (Hilger).  She moved to Manistee as a teenager and graduated from Manistee High School in 1950. Shortly after graduation, she married Bill, her high school sweetheart, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee.

The couple started their family while living on Monroe Street in Manistee before Bill joined the Michigan State Police in 1956, which began a series of road trips and family adventures throughout Michigan at posts in Grand Haven, Gaylord, Brighton and Calumet.

Bill, Darlene and their four children moved to Calumet in 1967 with the intention of staying just one year, but fell in love with the Copper Country and stayed to survive 20 wonderful winters before they retired in 1986. They were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Laurium.

Following retirement, the couple quickly dropped off their belongings at their new home in Ludington before hitting the road to enjoy visits with children and grandchildren throughout the United States.  Upon settling into the Ludington community and joining Our Savior Lutheran Church in Scottville, Bill and Darlene turned their home into the finest family gathering spot ever known with Darlene continuing her lifelong labor of love, baking the most amazing cakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls and granola bars for all to enjoy.  Incredibly devoted to faith and family, she was the spiritual heart of the Ludington home and along with Bill, served as a wonderful role model to three generations of children.

Darlene is survived by her daughter Laurie and husband Ken Copeland of Fowlerville; daughter Hollie and husband Gary Schaefer of Marietta, Georgia; son Bill Hahn and fiancé Jona Advincula of Fullerton, California; son John Hahn of Franklin; nine grandchildren: Matt and wife Abbie Copeland, Pete and wife Abby Copeland, Curt and wife Kelly Copeland, Scott Schaefer, Stacy Schaefer and husband Kyle Pentecost, Janel Hahn, Paige Bourgeois and fiancé Patrick Ryan Harrison, Raimee Iacofano and Chase Iacofano; and six great-grandchildren: Lilly, Avery, Kenlee, Gracyn, Decker and Evelyn; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by her father, mother, and stepfather Alvin Ekholm.

Services will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 765 West US 10-31, Scottville on Saturday, June 10, with visitation at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at the church and internment at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation https://tribute.themmrf.org or Our Savior Lutheran Church (231) 757-2271.
