CTE students participate in state health occupations competition. 

West Shore Educational Service District Career & Technical Education (CTE) Allied Health students recently competed at the state Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) competition against other high school students from around the state for a chance to advance to the HOSA International Leadership Conference. Ludington High School students Moira O’Brien and Marissa Stickney, who competed in CPR and First Aid, took the top spot at the competition and will be traveling in June to Nashville, Tennessee representing the CTE Allied Health program.

“Competition at the state level is becoming very tough. Many schools have four year programs; our program is only one” said Sally Wright, CTE Allied Health instructor. “This is a great testament to the work our students do and the level they are performing.”

The 2,525 students competed in several categories including: CPR/first aid, physical therapy, HOSA quiz bowl, medical terminology, medical spelling, health career display and nurse assisting.

CPR/First Aid

• Seventh  place: Morgan Cook and Amari Rivera (Mason County Central)

HOSA Quiz Bowl

• Fourth place: Allison Thompson and Kasey Eckstein (both Ludington High School) and McKayla Haske and Michele Haske (Onekama High School)

• Eighth place: Deondra McDonald (Baldwin High School)
